FINDING HIDDEN BELIEFS

How do you know if you’re having a stimulus/response belief that’s being reactivated and that the problem is not your current circumstance? There are several very simple ways:

1. Your feelings. If your feelings do not match your current circumstances, then you can almost be guaranteed that you are having an old stimulus response pain memory that’s being reactivated. However, most times you won’t be aware of this reactivation happening. The feelings will be so real you will think that it’s your circumstance, even if everybody else sees clearly that it doesn’t make sense. So ask a friend. Say, “Here’s the situation, and here’s what I’m feeling about it. Is this logical for this situation, or is this a little bit extreme? And please be honest with me. Please don’t tell me what you think I want to hear; tell me what you honestly think.”

2. Your thoughts. If the thoughts you’re having about your current circumstances are totally logical, and other people also see them that way, then you probably do not have a stimulus/response memory that’s being reactivated. If, on the other hand, your thoughts are not in harmony with your current situation, then you are having a pain memory reactivated. We want to be living in the present, not the past or the future. Surprisingly, very few people can do this. The reason is that painful cellular memories are being reactivated that cause thoughts and feelings from the past.

3. Your behaviors. If you do things repeatedly that you really don’t want to do and that work against your life purposes, you are acting upon a stimulus/response memory. A very obvious example is weight issues. We have so many people who come to The Healing Codes and want to lose weight, and they usually do. But when you see people who want to lose weight and continue to overeat, you can be guaranteed that they are having cellular memories that are being reactivated. They assign it to current circumstances (“I’m under a lot of stress, I’ll quit tomorrow…”). You’ve heard this if you haven’t used it yourself. The reality is that almost any addiction or destructive habit becomes locked in by painful cellular memories. The beliefs in those cellular memories are being reactivated and causing pain. The addiction is used to numb the pain or to try to feel good for a few hours.

4. Loss of conscious control. The most popular way of dealing with all these problems is what I call “coping.” If you have a health issue, it’s treating the symptom instead of addressing the source. Sometimes you can push that rock up the hill for a while… you can manage… you can cope… you can do better… but it’s always a forced struggle. You often feel tension as you try to stay on the straight and narrow. That tension is stress, and that tension can end up harming you. That’s not the way to do what you want, feel what you want, and think what you want.
